Cabin Newsletter & Class List- Spring/Summer 2010

Happy spring! I am so happy to see mud season leave and flowers and lots of green arrive. The transformation inspires us to be creative and start many new projects. My new Heart and Soul line by Whimsicals for Red Rooster is sooooo nice. I want to make so many projects with it but there is just never enough time in a day…do you ever wish you could stay awake all night? Sleep is overrated! Winter Traditions also have some very nice stripes (Striped Table runner pattern is perfect for them) and coordinating prints. Well I hope you enjoy the season and have a chance to take one of my classes, a fun time is guaranteed!

Out of respect for the pattern designer & copyright laws, the purchase of the patterns and any special tools needed for each class will be required and included on your supply list and will be available on the day of class. Bring your own lunch. I will offer coffee, tea and water.

These really great placemats have four sides to use. These make wonderful gifts for holidays (a holiday fabric per side), for children who need a little inspiration at meal time, for campers/vacation homes or to change your decor for each season. You need 1 yard each of four different fabrics for a set of 4 mats.

These trees are sooooo much fun to make. They can be made in many different colors and are not Xmas trees unless you choose to make them in holiday fabrics. A

stack and shuffle type quilt. I have layer cake (10" squares) kits made up for this project. Pattern makes a lap size quilt but you can easily make more blocks for a bigger quilt.

Join us for a day to learn the art of needle-turn and blanket stitch appliqué. If you admire the look of appliquéd quilts but have never attempted to try it, then this is the class for you! Priscilla is going to make us experts by the end of the day (myself included)! We will have small kits available the day of class.

Fun, easy and quick! This is my kind of quilt! All you need are fat quarters (or regular quarters) in any color arrangement and we are off. This quilt reminds me of Yellow Brick Road….lots of possibilities. Lap through King sizes available.

1. This is such a nice purse and could be done in so many different color ways. Sometimes you just need a purse rather than a tote bag. They make great gifts! We will be making the standard size bag but the pattern offers other sizes to choose from. I bet you can’t make just one! I will have kits available

2. This reversible tote has pockets inside and out and goes together so quickly! Put your fat quarter stash to good use (so you can buy more of course!). Use 3 fats for the outside and 3 for the inside. Finished tote is 14" x 18" x 4".

A Jelly Roll Project by Kansas Troubles Quilters. They are one of my favorite pattern and fabric designers. The patterns are simple but striking. Easy enough

for all skill levels and they would make wonderful gifts. Pattern is for Twin size - 77" x 84" and Queen size - 98" x 106".

Do you like cats or know someone who does? This is a cat lover’s quilt! The cats are all pieced and are separated with a sashing. A great "use up your stash" quilt. Would be nice on your couch, bed or wall! Finished quilt is 62" x 90".

Did you ever think of using a measuring tape for something other than measuring? Just sneak out to the garage (when you know who is not looking) and grab a metal tape measure then get your fabric and your ready for class! Kits will also be available. These are so cool! Wonderful gifts.

Another great Jelly Roll (2 1/2" strips) project! These fun, twisting flower blocks are easier than they appear! Make a Lap, Twin or Queen size quilt.

This pillow (11" x 22") would make a nice addition to any room or a wonderful gift for the young and old alike! We are going to do some basic piecing; some felted wool appliqué and we will also be using some Paintsticks (I will have kits available for this class). Come join the fun and learn a new technique!

A nice Terry Atkinson design that is quick and easy with a pinwheel variation type block. All you need is a little yardage (3 colors plus a background fabric) and your sewing machine. A fun day for all! Finished size is 18" x 43". I will have kits available.

Well I kept you busy all summer so the least I can do is have a class so that you can ask any questions, get help and/or finish up those projects we started! This is our end of summer classes party. I will provide a potluck style lunch.

Do you need a day to finish up or at least work on a project? Come to my Open Sewing (or knitting or any craft) Fridays from 9:30am-3pm. You can work on your own projects without any interruptions. No kids, husbands and phones, I love to see what you are working on and really need a day to work on my own things. This is not a teaching day but I will be there to answer questions. I will offer endless coffee and snacks. A small fee of $1.00 or $2.00 to cover expenses is much appreciated.

**Classes are first come first serve, full payment is required at registration. I accept MC, VISA and DC over the phone or stop in to reserve a spot in class. Please let me know if you want to reserve one of my machines for class. However, you should have a machine in good working order to use at home (for homework!). If you need to cancel please give me at least a one week notice for a full refund.
